RGSG Nanjing’s UK Visit

RGS Guildford was delighted to host students from its sister school, RGSG Nanjing, for a week-long visit that celebrated cultural exchange, academic collaboration, and the strong ties between the two institutions. This visit provided a valuable opportunity for students and staff to engage in meaningful interactions, fostering a spirit of global learning and friendship.

The visiting students were warmly welcomed into the homes of RGS Guildford families, giving them the chance to experience British life through a homestay programme. This initiative not only helped the students immerse themselves in a new culture but also created lasting friendships between families and students from both schools.

Throughout the week, the RGSG Nanjing students took part in lessons alongside their peers at RGS Guildford, engaging with both senior and prep pupils. This allowed them to experience the British education system first-hand, share perspectives on learning, and develop new skills in a collaborative setting. They also had the privilege of meeting with the Headmaster, Dr Cox, and the Head of RGS Prep, Mr Freeman-Day, to discuss the shared values and educational ethos that unite the two schools.

Beyond the classroom, the students explored the historic town of Guildford and learned about the rich heritage of RGS Guildford as the founding school of the international RGS family. They also spent time with the youngest pupils, reading stories and playing games, fostering a sense of community across all age groups. Additionally, the visiting students led assemblies, where they shared insights into life in Nanjing, providing their British counterparts with a fascinating glimpse into their culture and daily experiences.

This visit was far more than just an academic exchange; it was a testament to the strong partnership between RGSG Nanjing and RGS Guildford. Through these visits and other joint initiatives, the collaboration between the two schools continues to flourish, reinforcing their commitment to global education. As the visit came to an end, it was clear that the friendships, experiences, and learning gained over the week would leave a lasting impression on all involved, and we look forward to future collaborative events.

Hosting an exchange student from RGSG Nanjing was a very rewarding experience!

We loved having an opportunity to share aspects of English culture and language with our student, ranging from tourist attractions, playing board games and attending a school play to the more mundane activities such as the school run or grocery shopping. In turn, our student taught us so much about China and life at RGSG Nanjing and even managed to teach us some Chinese!

Our family has really enjoyed taking part in the Homestay program – so much so that we have done it twice!  The students we have met have been delightful and we have learnt a lot about life in China.

Hosting Joyce as part of the RGSGNJ visit was a real pleasure that benefitted us all. We went out on country walks and visited some sights. It was a great opportunity for us to each learn a little bit more about a different culture and I would highly recommend it to anyone (on either side) considering.
